WSHA was one of 12 recipients across the country selected to receive a Health Equity and Nursing Innovation Fund from AARP, the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and the Robert Wood Foundation. WSHA received $25,000 through the grant, and the organizations awarded nearly $275,000 to other selected organizations. WSHA and the Association of Washington Public Hospital Districts are providing additional funding to this program.
WSHA’s funding will support the Rural Nurse Leadership Program. The Rural Nurse Leadership Program supports charge nurses, nurse managers and clinical nurse educators, with 30 slots available for nurse learners in rural hospitals. More information and instructions for applying are available on the WSHA website. Once spots fill up, WSHA will maintain a waiting list.
Cultivating a strong health care workforce continues to be one of WSHA’s top priorities. Washington, like the rest of the country, is facing a nursing shortage, and rural areas are hit especially hard. The Rural Nurse Leadership Program will help nurses grow their skills, which benefits the patients and the communities they serve.
