Seattle Children’s, CHI Franciscan Health and Harborview Medical Center’s Injury Prevention & Research Center are partnering with other community organizations for a free firearm storage giveaway event from 10am-1pm May 12 in Federal Way. Together they will distribute 350 free lock boxes and 50 free trigger locks at the Sportsman’s Warehouse. Attendees will also learn about the importance and effectiveness of safe firearm storage, especially in homes with children and teens. They will also provide hands-on training on how to use the lock boxes and trigger locks.
Firearm storage reduces the risk of suicide by firearm by 78 percent and accidental shootings by 85 percent for children and teens. Learn more about the safe firearm program on the Seattle Children’s website or by emailing gunsafety@seattlechildrens.org. (Tim Pfarr)
