The UW Psychiatry Consultation Line (PCL) for providers is now offered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Providers can call 877-WA-PSYCH (877-927-7924) to consult directly with a UW psychiatrist or schedule a later time to talk that may be more convenient. The service is free, and a written summary of the recommendations is provided. To date, PCL psychiatrists have consulted with providers from 32 of Washington’s 39 counties. 100 percent of survey respondents said they would use the consult line again and would recommend the program to their colleagues.
Coupled with other provider support consult lines PAL for Kids and PAL for Moms – specialty psychiatry consultation lines focused on children/adolescents and pregnant/new moms – UW Psychiatry has developed a robust psychiatric consultation system to help health care providers who have or are seeing an increased caseload of patients with mental health and substance use problems. Although the consultation lines were not set up in response to the pandemic, they are serving as a tremendous resource during these difficult times.
