The Primary and the PAC

August 4, 2016

This week, Washington State held its primary for executive, congressional, and legislative races. Our Washington Hospital Political Action Committee made major contributions to 83 candidates for elected office across the state. We are excited that the vast majority of candidates we supported did well in the primary and will be advancing to the general election in November. These contributions were made possible because of generous PAC donors.

Helping elect outstanding public officials who are champions of hospitals and health care is a key part of our advocacy agenda. This year, we are pushing to raise PAC money earlier so we can get it into the hands of outstanding candidates faster. Our members and donors have been out delivering checks to candidates, which is a great way to build strong relationships.

For each race, the two candidates with the most votes will move on to the November general election, regardless of party. In some races, we are unsure which two candidates will prevail – votes will continue to be counted for days to come. In other races, it’s clear which two will advance but they are neck and neck in the primary, indicating a very hot race moving towards November. With the very tight control of the state legislature by Democrats in the House and Republicans in the Senate, it’s an election year worth watching.

We plan to continue making major contributions to candidates for office, but need your support. If you haven’t yet contributed to the PAC, please do so!
