The Hospital Safety Net Assessment Program for State Fiscal 2017 went into effect July 1, 2016. Under the program, the state collects assessments from hospitals. These funds, along with federal match, are used both to support payments to hospitals for Medicaid services and for the state general fund. For prospective payment hospitals, the first quarter assessments are due on September 30, 2016.
While the Hospital Safety Net Assessment program is structurally unchanged from SFY 2016, the amount of the assessments and payments differ from the prior state fiscal year. WSHA has prepared hospital-specific estimates of assessments and payments under the program and is sending them to hospital representatives over the next few days. (Andrew Busz, andrewb@wsha.org)
