COVID-19 vaccine ordering will shut off in the Washington Immunization Information System (WA IIS) at 4:00 p.m. Aug. 2. The anticipated availability of updated COVID-19 vaccines for the fall/winter campaign is mid-to-late September 2023. These vaccines will be available directly from the manufacturers as part of the commercial market or through the Adult Vaccine Program and Childhood Vaccine Program rather than directly through the United States government.
Providers are encouraged to place necessary orders prior to the cutoff date to maintain their COVID-19 vaccine inventory and access points while these vaccines are still authorized. Providers should continue to not miss any opportunities to vaccinate every eligible person who requests a vaccination, even if it means puncturing a multidose vial to administer vaccine without having enough people available to administer all doses in the vial.
For additional information, see CDC’s HHS Commercialization Transition Guide (released July 6), which provides potential future direction for providers participating in the COVID-19 Vaccine Program should authorization and recommendations occur for new COVID-19 vaccines this fall. (Taya Briley)
