Beginning at 8:00 a.m. on June 20, the Health Care Authority (HCA) will start to accept applications for the new Apple Health Expansion (AHE). AHE provides Apple Health-like medical coverage to income eligible adults regardless of immigration status. Coverage will be effective on July 1, 2024.
From noon to 1:00 p.m. on June 20, WSHA and HCA will hold a webcast on the new AHE program and other coverage options available to undocumented Washingtonians, such as the Alien Emergency Medical Programs, After-Pregnancy Coverage, Apple Health for Kids. Advance registration is required; please click here to register.
AHE comes from legislatively authorized state-only funding that WSHA supported during the 2023 Legislative session. This new program provides “Medicaid-like” health coverage for adults aged 19 or older earning less than 138% of the federal poverty level, regardless of immigration status. Benefits for the program will be managed by 4 of the 5 managed care organizations (MCOs) and enrollment is capped with an estimated 13,000 individuals able to obtain coverage.
