As part of the Working Together for Patient Care effort, WSHA has drafted up a frequently asked questions (FAQ) document to serve as a resource. You can download the FAQ here.
The FAQ addresses:
- Who participates on hospital staffing committees (HSCs)
- The role of the hospital CEO during this process
- New meal and rest break provisions
- Compliance provisions
- Emergent circumstances
Additional resources to include key dates and collateral can be found at the Working Together for Patient Care website. As you work to implement the law, we are here to help throughout the process.
Washington State’s new hospital staffing law – Senate Bill 5236 – is a commitment to supporting the well-being of both patients and hospital workforces. Since January, hospitals across the state have established their HSCs and are busy working on their proposed 2025 staffing plan and charters. Since the law is new and modifies and enhances previous staffing plans, hospitals may have some questions as they work on implementation.
