The Washington State Human Rights Commission (WSHRC) has posted training materials related to Senate Bill 5027, which requires businesses to enable closed captioning settings on televisions in public areas. The bill applies to waiting areas and lobbies in hospitals and clinics, as well as other businesses such as restaurants and health clubs. A copy of WSHA’s earlier bulletin is here.
WSHRC’s training materials, including a Guidance Paper with FAQs and a PowerPoint presentation are available on its website. The law was effective July 25, 2021, and businesses need to comply by October 23, 2021, to avoid potential enforcement action and fines. (Andrew Busz, AndrewB@wsha.org)
