On Tuesday, December 7 from 10:00-11:00 am WSHA will provide an overview of the No Surprises Act (NSA) and its requirements. The webinar is designed for staff of WSHA member hospitals who are responsible for compliance, coverage verification, providing estimates of charges, providing patient notices, and patient accounts. A join link for the webinar can be obtained by registering here.
The federal NSA is effective January 1, 2022. Some requirements and mechanisms of the NSA have not been finalized, but there are other provisions that will need to be implemented for January 1.
The webinar will cover:
- New requirements for notifications and good faith estimates under the NSA
- How the NSA interacts with Washington state’s existing Balance Billing Protection Act (BBPA)
- Key differences between NSA and BBPA payment and dispute resolution processes
- Potential legislative changes to the BBPA
WSHA has been actively involved in federal advocacy regarding the NSA and has provided stakeholder input on draft modifications to the BBPA. For more information, see our previous Fiscal Watch. (Andrew Busz, AndrewB@wsha.org)
