The WSHA Behavioral Health team will host “It’s Not About the Food: Eating Disorder Myths, Misconceptions, and Strategies for Prevention” from 9-10:30 a.m. Friday, March 3, in honor of National Eating Disorder Awareness Week.
Eating disorders are one of the most misunderstood diagnoses in behavioral health, and this lack of understanding is particularly distressing because eating disorders have the second-highest mortality rate of all behavioral health conditions, surpassed only by opioid use disorder.
In this virtual education event, we will learn about the basics of eating disorders, examine the ways media and culture shape beliefs about body type, discuss the impact of weight stigma on health care and identify practical strategies for support and prevention. Please register here and reach out to WSHA Assistant Director of Behavioral Health Brittany Weiner with any questions.
