The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid services (CMS) recently approved the state’s renewal request of the Section 1115 Medicaid Demonstration Waiver, entitled ‘Medicaid Transformation Project 2.0’ (MTP 2.0). MTP 2.0 is effective from July 1, 2023 until June 30, 2028.
CMS renewed the waiver pursuant to the determination that MTP 2.0 will increase access to high-quality medical assistance in the state and coverage for targeted low-income Washingtonians. Notably, CMS approved new initiatives related to continuous enrollment for postpartum individuals with income up to 193% FPL and presumptive eligibility for certain long-term care services (WSHA strongly supported this change). It also provides continuous eligibility for children ages 0-5 (expected to reach an estimated 16,700 eligible enrollees), the ability for Apple Health to cover services to address health related social needs, and other newly approved programs.
