Honoring Choices Pacific Northwest (HCPNW) worked with Ariadne Labs to develop an upgraded approach to teaching this useful Guide. The Guide uses shared decision making and patient-tested language to learn what matters most and plan for the future. Ariadne Labs, founded by Atul Gawande, has studied the Guide in diverse clinical settings, showing improved outcomes on all aspects of the quadruple aim.
The newly improved training teaches the words of the Guide and also includes interstitial communication skills that make the Guide successful. The training involves real-time coaching using simulated “role-plays,” ensuring that clinicians feel confident in using the Guide. CME/CECH is given for pre-work, actual class time and one real-time conversation.
Normally this type of training is only offered on a limited basis within individual health care systems. However, we are excited to offer courses to the public bi-monthly. All health care professions are welcome!
The next training dates are:
- Friday, May 12, 7:45-11 a.m. (at full capacity, please email to be put on the waitlist)
- Wednesday, May 17, 1:45-5 p.m. (registration ends May 10)
