WSHA is pleased to announce that Overlake Hospital & Medical Center President and CEO J. Michael Marsh has been appointed to serve on the Advisory Committee of Health Care Providers and Carriers, of the Health Care Cost Transparency Board (HCCTB). In 2020, the legislature enacted HB 2457 creating the HCCTB to address the state’s health care cost growth. WSHA’s advocacy shaped the legislation, including directing the HCCTB to use available data when possible and to consider a broad range of factors impacting the cost of health care.
The focus of the board is to (1) determine the state’s total health care expenditures, (2) identify cost trends and cost drivers in the health system, (3) set a health care cost growth benchmark for providers and payers and (4) report annually to the legislature, including recommendations to lower health care costs. WSHA’s bulletin provides additional information and WSHA will host webinar for members over the summer as the HCCTB work progresses.
Mike Marsh is representing hospitals and health systems on the advisory committee and will be serving with other members representing an array of health care providers, facilities and insurers. The advisory committee will make recommendations to the 14-member board on issues related to the value and feasibility of reporting total health care expenditures and health care cost growth with respect to various categories, such as urban and rural, public and private sector, statewide and by geographic rating areas. Additional information about the HCCTB is available on the Health Care Authority’s site.
