The treatment of acute and chronic pain and prescribing opioids in adults 65+ is an increasing relevant patient safety topic, given the aging U.S. population. In 2018, The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality reported increasing rates of opioid-related hospitalizations among older adults, the highest median rates in OR and WA.
