Congress passed the Americans with Disabilities Act more than two decades ago. Since then, each July has become a vital time for health care professionals to better understand health care access challenges the one-in-four U.S. adults with disabilities face.
Health care organizations, in addition to highlighting accessible and inclusive care, should include anti-ableist training and education in their DEI initiatives. This ensures facilities and digital platforms are accessible — and inclusive hiring practices like recruiting and accommodating workers with disabilities — are prioritized. (Jenica Sandall)
