The Washington State Department of Commerce is now accepting applications for $25 million and $15 million Clean Building Performance grants.
This energy efficiency grant program aligns with the Clean Buildings Performance Standard, providing financial support for building owners working toward compliance while helping reduce costs and lower emissions.
The program includes two funding categories:
- $25 million for privately owned Tier 1 covered buildings
- $15.4 million for Tier 1 and Tier 2 publicly owned buildings
What is a Tier 1 or Tier 2 Building?
- Tier 1 Buildings: Nonresidential, hotel, motel, and dormitory spaces exceeding 50,000 gross square feet (excluding parking garages). Mandatory compliance begins in June 2026 for buildings larger than 220,000 square feet.
- Tier 2 Buildings: Buildings between 20,000 and 50,000 gross square feet, or multifamily residential buildings exceeding 50,000 gross square feet (excluding parking garages).
