Beginning Jan. 31, nurses with a Washington primary state of residence (PSOR) who meet uniform multistate license requirements can apply for a Washington multistate license (MSL).
WSHA and its members strongly supported and advocated for SSB 5499 (2023 law), which allowed Washington State to join the Multistate Nurse Licensure Compact.
Registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical nurses (LPNs) who hold an active Washington single-state license must apply for the MSL upgrade if they would like to hold an MSL. Nurses who are new to Washington State can also apply for a Washington MSL. The Compact will allow multistate licensure privileges for nurses who meet uniform license requirements to practice in participating Compact states and jurisdictions.
For more information on how to apply for an MSL, please visit the Washington State Board of Nursing’s online application instructions page. (Mary Storace)
